Korean Writing Correction: Three Mistakes in a Green Tea Diary Entry

Particle errors, wrong conjugation, and a contracted verb — three common mistakes in one Korean diary entry about green tea, corrected and explained.

Writing about daily drinks is one of the easiest ways to start a Korean diary. Simple topics, but they still trip up learners at the grammar level.

Here is a Korean learner's diary entry about green tea, with three common mistakes corrected.

The Original Writing

오늘은 녹차을 처음으로 직접 우려서 마셨어요. 시간이 걸렸지만 맛이 달라요. 녹차를 마시면 마음이 차분에 되는 것 같고, 집중도 잘 되요. 다음에도 또 마시고 싶어요.

The meaning is clear: today I brewed green tea for the first time, it took time but tasted different, it seemed to calm my mind and help me focus. Three errors, all worth knowing.

The Three Corrections

1. 녹차을 → 녹차를

Korean object particles follow one rule: after a consonant, after a vowel. 녹차 ends in the vowel ㅏ — so it needs .

  • ✗ 녹차 마셨어요
  • ✅ 녹차 마셨어요

Diary tip: Say it aloud — 녹차을 sounds wrong immediately. 녹차를 feels natural.

2. 차분에 되는 → 차분해지는

To say "my mind becomes calm," use 차분해지다 (차분하다 + -아/어지다 = to become). The particle 에 marks location — not transformation.

  • ✗ 마음이 차분에 되는 것 같아요
  • ✅ 마음이 차분해지는 것 같아요

Diary tip: [adjective stem + 해지다] is essential for diary writing. 따뜻해지다, 피곤해지다, 행복해지다 — all built the same way.

3. 잘 되요 → 잘 돼요

되다 contracts: 되어요 → 돼요 (not 되요).

  • ✗ 집중도 잘 되요
  • ✅ 집중도 잘 돼요

Diary tip: 됐어요 (past), 돼요 (present) — once internalized, 되다 stops being confusing.
